Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) equips students with the knowledge and skills to enhance their own and others' safety, health, and wellbeing. In a complex and changing world, it is crucial for young people to respond critically to health contexts and physical activity options.

By making our physical lessons fun and engaging, we foster lifelong engagement in physical activity, teaching students to value movement through the development and application of various movement skills and strategies. They refine physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills essential for a healthy, active life.

Students cultivate skills for building connections, identity, resilience, and respectful relationships, taking positive action regarding consent, safety, and wellbeing in both offline and online environments. Learning experiences promote self-management and interpersonal skills to advocate for health and wellbeing.

PDHPE addresses factors affecting individuals and communities, enabling students to develop health literacy skills to critique attitudes and evaluate health-related resources.
