High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
- Teachers identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students. We provide learning pathways, including enrichment and extension lessons.
- Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
- Groups are flexible, students take lead roles, and feedback is strengths-based with clear goals and self-assessment.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners
We recognise the four domains that underpin HPGE; creativity, sporting prowess, academic and social emotional. To cater for our students across all these domains we;
- Provide the opportunity for students to engage in Southern Stars production, Kierabald art exhibition, Twilight concert, weekly art club, Operation Art and Cool Kids Music tuition.
- In the sporting arena, our students compete in our athletics and swimming carnivals, with many being selected to represent at district, regional and state levels. We engage in PSSA sporting competitions and encourage students with demonstrated talents to pursue selection at higher levels of competition. Cross country running and a wide range of sports are offered through experienced coaches.
- Academically our students are challenged through school based public speaking, our involvement in the network HPGE class for year 5 students which we host, Community of Schools stage 2 STEM challenge in conjunction with Keira High School, genius hour research projects.
- Students extend themselves through their involvement in the school and network SRC. Our student leaders participate in leadership development days and practices these skills through their fortnightly hosting of whole school assemblies. Their social emotional development is extended through the school value of community. Students lead initiatives to raise funds or resources for local and national charities.
Our students like to be challenged and are provided the opportunity to participate in;
- Tournament of Minds to test their critical and creative thinking, presentation and team work skills
- Premier's Spelling Bee
